Suffragette Postcards

There are a number of books which deal with this period in history but here are some I have found particularly useful. The book by McDonald is worth a special mention as it is specifically about postcards of this period and later. There are also some articles from academic journals.

Crawford, Elizabeth (1999) The Women's Suffrage Movement: A reference Guide 1866-1928. London: Routledge.

McQuiston, Liz (1997) Suffragettes to She-Devils: Women's liberation and beyond. London: Phaidon.

Cowman, Krista (2007) "Doing something silly": the uses of humour by the Women's Social and Political Union, 1903-1914. International Review of Social History, Vol 52, pp. 259-74.

Tickner, Lisa (1987) The Spectacle of Women: Imagery of the suffrage campaign 1907-14. London: Chatto & Windus.

McDonald, Ian (1989) Vindication: A postcard history of the woman's movement. Deirdre McDonald Books.
